The Great Opportunity
The Antelope Valley region is surrounded by the Angeles National Forest and Sierra Nevadas. At the convergence of montane and marine formations, the western Mojave Desert offers a variety of unique desert habitats as well as transition habitat ecotones. The region has a great opportunity -- and responsibiltiy -- to fulfilll regional planning goals of sustainable ecosystem function, watershed function, and connectivity for biodiversity. Antelope Valley Conservancy is fulfilling this great opportunity by creating large preserves of functioning habitat and watershed resources. AVC's Mitigation Program has held Authorization from the California Dept of Fish and Game since 2007. Through community based professional management, AVC fulfills its mission with "biological integrity, fiscal accountability, and community transparency."
Antelope Valley Conservancy's Mission
Our mission is the aquisition and stewardship of native habitats and watershed resources. We acknowledge future generations’ interests in land that maintains community character, ecological function, and scenic beauty. We acknowledge the right of nature to retain territory, particularly functional habitats and connectivity.
WHAT WE DO: Antelope Valley Conservancy provides land acquisition services to the community, and focuses the expertise of community professionals to ensure the public interest in implementing mitigation. AVC serves the economic and ecological region of the Antelope-Fremont Valleys Watershed and the upper Santa Clara River Watershed, a triangle formed by the Tehachapi Mountains, San Gabriel Mountains, and the San Bernardino County Line.
WHY WE DO IT: Conservation of functioning habitats and connectivity is a critical component of regional planning and a sustainable regional economy. It contributes to clean water supplies, pest control, healthy farms and forests, human health, and a healthy regional economy.
HOW WE DO IT: Antelope Valley Conservancy has garnered $300,000 in acquisition, planning and development grants for wetlands in the San Gabriel Mountains. We also accept some donated lands. Most of all, we manage the mitigation program, giving agencies and developers a means to benefit our region by fulfilling mitigation with a substantive impact on ecosystem function. AVC is a 501(c)(3) public charity, and meets IRC 170(h) status as a public charity and conservation land manager, ensuring land donors qualify for the highest tax benefits. AVC's Mitigation Program has held Authorization from the California Dept of Fish and Game since 2008.
